WPWC meeting

The Western Pocono Women’s Club will be meeting at 7 p.m. Monday at Effort UMC, with Aralee Thieling presenting the program of events and activities at the Chestnuthill parks.

The club has announced its two $500 scholarships have been won by Kassidy Shupp, who won WPWC Memorial Scholarship; and Mattison Hyland, who won the Jacqueline Sue Coleman Memorial Scholarship.

The membership extends its thanks to Lisa Altemose, Kris Meckes, and Pat Mackes for planting marigolds at the West End Fairgrounds before the Fireman’s Festival. Also, thanks to Donna and Bob Coleman for furnishing the American Flags for the flower beds.

Overeaters meeting

Our Lady Queen of Peace church is hosting a meeting of Overeaters Anonymous at 10 a.m. every Friday morning.

Fellowship breakfast

Effort UMC is hosting a freewill donation breakfast from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. on Father’s Day. Proceeds from the event will go to the church’s Capital Improvement Fund.

Supervisors meet

Chestnuthill Township Supervisors meet the first and third Tuesday of the month.

Eldred Township Supervisors meet at 7 p.m. the third Wednesday of the month at the municipal building on the Kunkletown Road. Verify by calling 610-381-4252.

Zion’s free dinner

Zion Lutheran, Brodheadsville, is hosting a free Community Dinner from 5 to 6 p.m. next Wednesday. The meal is set to be a 6-inch hoagie, macaroni salad, chips, watermelon, dessert and a water bottle.

It will be provided by way of a drive-thru pickup. All are welcome.

Historical society

Barbara Wogan of the Chestnuthill Township Historical Society is asking members who can attend the meeting at 6 p.m. June 21 to let her know they can attend at the Park Building at that time.

Yard sale

The Polk Township Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary is hosting a yard sale/craft fair/vendor sale and bake sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., rain or shine, on June 24, at the Polk Township Volunteer Fire Company complex in Kresgeville.

MC garden tour

The Monroe County Garden Club will present its Garden Tour of local gardens from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 24.

Tickets may be purchased in advance at Stonewall Garden Center, Rt 447 Canadensis; Ross & Ross Nursery, 5801 Paradise Valley Rd, Cresco; and The Potting Shed, 931 Ann St., Stroudsburg.

Tickets may be purchased the day of the tour at Bryant Park, Stroudsburg.

June VBS

Effort UMC will hold its Vacation Bible School from June 25-30. The theme is Babylon, Daniel’s Courage in Captivity.

On Sunday, the classes will be from 12:30 to 3 p.m., with lunch provided and on Monday through Friday, the classes will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. evenings. Meals will be provided.

St. Peter’s UMC, Saylorsburg, will kickoff a new summer program on June 23, offering families a weekend of activity.

The church will offer free Fourth Friday Family Fun Flicks again, followed on Saturday by Vacation Bible School from 10 a.m. to noon for ages 5-12 and worship at 10 a.m. on Sunday.

The VBS program will include a Bible story, songs, crafts, a snack and other activities.

Families are welcome to join the Fourth Friday evenings, starting with a showing of E.T.-the Extra Terrestrial.

Hot dogs and popcorn will be available. The Fourth Friday movie begins at dusk, approximately 8:25 p.m. Showings will be on the lawn behind the St. Peter’s building (924 Rt. 115). Bring a lawn chair or blanket.

Movie rain dates are the following Friday. The church sign on Rt. 115 will provide info on the next showing.

The VBS program and the worship service are open to all children in the community.

Salem-St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 138 Trach Road, Kresgeville, is holding free Vacation Bible School time for students in K through Grade 8, from June 25-28. The theme is “God’s Good Creation” and the hours are: June 25, 10 to 11:30 a.m., after 9:30 a.m. worship; Monday through Wednesday, 1 to 3 p.m.

Pre-K kids welcome with an adult. Older teens welcome to help with activities. The students will learn about animals and get to hold a baby goat.

Students will also make care packages for Street2Feet and share God’s love.

Join the church June 29 at 6 p.m. for supper. The free supper for all includes hot dogs and drinks and attendees may bring a side dish if they would you like.

Musician needed

The residents at Mrs. Bush’s in Kunkletown would like to do a once-a-month hymn sing on the fourth Wednesday of each month from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Anyone playing the piano or knowing someone that plays and may be interested in volunteering for a month or a few months, beginning in August, is asked to contact Carrie Shafer, ADC., Community Life Director, at Mrs. Bush’s Personal Care Home at Office at 610-381-1009.

Ross Historical

The Ross Township Historical Society museum will be open for visitors from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on July 1. The museum is located in the Ross Township Municipal Hall Annex, 258 Anchorage Rd, Saylorsburg.

Featured will be member Marsha Beers, a retired Pleasant Valley High School German teacher. She will be available to speak German with those wishing to converse in German and to translate letters, family mementos, etc. written in German.

Beers also volunteers as a translator for the Moravian Archives and can discuss her work there and the Archives.

All are welcome; there is no charge for admission.

The museum will be closed on the first Saturday in August, but can be opened for individuals by appointment during that month.
