State police at Frackville - crashes

State police at the Frackville barracks reported on the following crashes:

• An elderly woman suffered serious injuries in a two-vehicle crash at 6:07 p.m. May 25 on Summer Valley Road (Route 895) in East Brunswick Township.

Police said Rosarene D. Kunkle, 82, of Wyomissing, was transported by personnel from the Pottsville/Schuylkill Haven Area EMS unit to the Reading Hospital after the crash. She was the driver of one of the vehicles involved in the mishap.

The second driver, Keith R. Eckroth, 41, of New Ringgold, suffered minor injuries and was transported by personnel from the New Ringgold Ambulance to the Geisinger-St. Luke’s Hospital, Orwigsburg.

Police said the crash occurred when Kunkle, driving a 2012 Toyota Camry south on Little Mountain Road, proceeded without clearance onto Route 895 and struck the right side of a 2000 Ford pickup operated by Eckroth. Police said the Ford overturned and came to rest off the westbound lane.

Both vehicles sustained disabling damages and were towed from the scene.

Police said Kunkle was cited for a “stop sign/yield sign” violation.

• Dennis F. Harris, 75, and his passenger, Beth A. Harris, 70, both of Tuscarora, were injured in a crash at 3:38 p.m. May 25 on Tuscarora Mountain Drive in Ryan Township.

Police said they were transported by personnel from the Ryan Township Emergency and Rescue Squad to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Miners Campus, Coaldale. Police said Dennis Harris had “possible injuries” while Beth Harris had “suspected minor injuries.”

Police said the crash happened when Dennis Harris was driving a 2015 Chrysler Town and Country minivan south and a deer ran onto the roadway. Police said he attempted to avoid striking the deer and lost control of the van, which traveled off the southbound lane and struck a tree. The van had disabling damages and was towed from the scene.

Police said Dennis Harris was cited for the crash.
