Entertainment around the area

Classic 1960s-era hits rank among the entertainment highlights set for local and regional venues over the next couple of weeks.

The Happy Together Tour, in its 14th year, returns to Penn’s Peak with The Turtles, Little Anthony and Gary Puckett & The Union Gap, among others. Los Lobos, America, and Billy Bob Thornton and The Boxmasters, will also play shows at the Peak.

Meanwhile, Mauch Chunk Opera House will host tributes to Stevie Wonder, Prince and 1980s glam rock. Over in the Lehigh Valley, Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Nancy Wilson, of Heart, will perform at Bethlehem’s Wind Creek Event Center.

• Los Lobos, 8 p.m. June 9. Formed in East Los Angeles in 1973, the Chicano rock band released its 17th studio album, “Native Sons,” in 2021. Los Lobos scored its biggest hit with a 1987 cover of Ritchie Valens’ “La Bamba.”

• Happy Together Tour, 8 p.m. June 15. The lineup of late-1950s-to-late-1960s hitmakers features: The Turtles (“Happy Together”) with Ron Dante (The Archies’ “Sugar, Sugar”), Little Anthony (“Tears on My Pillow”), Gary Puckett & The Union Gap (“Young Girl”), The Vogues (“You’re The One”), Classics IV (“Spooky”) and The Cowsills (“Hair”).

• America, 8 p.m. June 16. Formed in 1970 in London, the pop-rock act features founding members Gerry Beckley and Dewey Bunnell. America, with 18 studio albums, scored hits such as “A Horse With No Name,” “Sister Golden Hair” and “Ventura Highway.”

• Billy Bob Thornton and The Boxmasters, 8 p.m. June 22. Born in Hot Springs, Arkansas, Thornton - also a filmmaker and actor - founded The Boxmasters with J.D. Andrew in Bellflower, California, in 2007. The rock band released its 13th studio album, “’69,” in May.

• The British Invasion Years, 8 p.m. June 9. The 1960s tribute band performs songs by British and American groups, with songs by The Beatles concluding the show.

• Hunkajunk, 8 p.m. June 10. Formed in 2015 and based in northeast Pennsylvania, Hunkajunk will present Wonderbred, a Stevie Wonder tribute. The show will also include retro and modern hits, along with original jams.

• The Outcrops, 7:30 p.m. June 15. Hailing from northern New Jersey, the group performs original blues-infused rock. Formed in 2016, The Outcrops’ discography includes 2019’s “Peace of Mind” album and the 2022 EP “Live Extended Play.”

• Mullett, 8 p.m. June 16. The tribute band, performing for more than a decade, plays music from the glam-band era of the 1980s.

• Dean Ford and the Beautiful Ones, 8 p.m. June 17. In 2012, Ford and his musician friends performed their first Prince tribute in Portland, Maine. The band, named after a 1984 Prince track, performs the “Purple Rain” album and other Prince classics.

• The Hypochondriacs, 7:30 p.m. June 22. Formed in 2015 in New Brunswick, Canada, the band’s music includes elements of 1960s doo-wop and 1970s folk-rock. The Hypochondriacs released its second full-length album “Waitin’” in 2022.

• Gypsy: A True Stevie Nicks Experience, 7 p.m. June 10. The band, named after the same-titled 1982 Fleetwood Mac song, performs songs from Nicks’ solo catalog and with the Mac.

• Damn the Torpedoes, 7 p.m. June 17. The group, performing the music of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, took its name from the latter’s 1979 album of the same name.

• Ecospheres, 7 p.m. June 16. Kyle O’Brien and Josh Martonyak lead the five-piece jazz/rock/funk fusion band, based in Jim Thorpe. The group covers acts such as Herbie Hancock, Billy Cobham and Jeff Beck.

• “The Room,” 6 p.m. June 11. The theater will screen Tommy Wiseau’s 1993 drama “The Room,” with co-star and “Disaster Artist” author Greg Sestero attending. The film centers on a love triangle involving Johnny (Wiseau), his fiancee and his best friend Mark (Sestero).

• Haunted House Party, 6 p.m. June 16 and 17. Grady Hendrix, author of books such as “How to Sell a Haunted House” and “My Best Friend’s Exorcism,” will host the event. Films include 1976’s “Burnt Offerings,” 1980s “The Changeling” and 1982’s “Poltergeist.”

• Lance Burton: Master Magician & Friends, 8 p.m. June 9. Born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky, Burton was a Las Vegas headliner for three decades. His new show includes illusions, sleight of hand and audience participation.

• Matt Rife, 5 and 8 p.m. June 11. Hailing from Columbus, Ohio, Rife started performing stand-up comedy at age 15. In 2021, he self-produced “Only Fans,” his first comedy special.

• The Used and Pierce the Veil, 6:30 p.m. June 15. Formed in 2000 in Orem, Utah, the rock band released its ninth studio album, “Toxic Positivity,” in May. Pierce the Veil, formed in San Diego in 2006, released its fourth studio album, “The Jaws of Life,” in February.

• Pride Under the Big Top, 8 p.m. June 17. Out in the Valley will present the circus-themed event, featuring flow artists, stilt walkers, a DJ, dancing and cocktails.

• Nancy Wilson’s Heart, 8 p.m. June 18. Born in San Francisco, Wilson, along with sister Ann, has released 16 studio albums as part of the rock band Heart. The latter, formed in Seattle in the 1970s, scored hits such as “Crazy on You,” “Barracuda” and “These Dreams.” The singer-songwriter/guitarist released a solo album, “You and Me,” in 2021.

• Christopher Cross and Justin Hayward, 7 p.m. June 13. Born in San Antonio, Cross scored early-1980s hits such as “Sailing” and “Arthur’s Theme (Best That You Can Do).” Hayward, an English singer-songwriter/guitarist, recorded 16 studio albums with The Moody Blues, scoring hits such as 1972’s “Nights in White Satin” and 1986’s “Your Wildest Dreams.”

• Lucky Moon Zooz, 8 p.m. June 9. The horn-powered band consists of New York City acts Too Many Zooz, Moon Hooch and Lucky Chops.

• Brian Regan, 8 p.m. June 16. Born in Miami, the comedian started his stand-up career in the 1980s. Since 2017, Regan has played “Mugsy” in the TV series “Loudermilk.”
