Three area teams in state playoffs

Three area teams will be participating in the upcoming state playoffs, which begin on Monday.

Marian’s baseball team, which captured the District 11 Class 1A championship, will play a first round contest against Dock Mennonite on Monday. The game will be played at Methacton High School in Eagleville, starting at 4 p.m. Dock Mennonite, which sports a 19-2 record, is the District 1 champ.

Northwestern’s softball team, which came up just short of a D-11 Class 4A title, qualified for states as the district runner-up and will also be in action Monday. The Tigers, coached by Josh Zimmerman, will travel to Valley View to take on the District 2 champions. The Cougars are 21-1 this season and are riding a nine-game winning streak. Their only loss was a 6-5 decision against Abington Heights on May 6. Northwestern’s record is 20-4.

The boys lacrosse team at Northwestern will also be competing in the PIAA postseason after earning District 11 gold. Coached by Marcus Janda, the Tigers not only get to play in the state playoffs but they will also be hosting a first round game. They will take on District 12 runner-up Devon Prep on Tuesday, starting at 7 p.m. Northwestern owns a record of 14-6.
