June 2, 1953 - John Tumas pitches a three-hitter to help Tamaqua open its Tri-County Legion season with a 2-1, 10-inning victory over Mauch Chunk. Tumas goes the distance on the mound, walking three and striking out 13. The winners, coached by Eddie Neifert, push across the eventual game-winning run in the top of the 10th when Joe Plasko singles home Billy Hood, who also reaches on a single. Tamaqua’s other run comes in the fourth when Louis Konstas doubles and scores on an RBI single by Charles Wolfe. Wolfe ends the contest with two hits.
