Crashes, DUI down over holiday weekend

The Pennsylvania State Police Troop M, Bethlehem, has announced the results of the Memorial Day Holiday Enforcement period, which began at midnight Friday, May 26, and concluded at 11:59 p.m. on Monday.

During the Memorial Day Holiday Traffic Enforcement period of 2023, Troop M (Lehigh County, Northampton County and Bucks County) troopers investigated 42 crashes and made 26 driving under the influence arrests. The crash total is down from the 54 that took place during the same period in 2022, and the DUI arrests are down from the 31 that took place last year.

The crash data shows (2022 total in parentheses): crashes, 42 (54); persons injured, 16 (13), and alcohol-related crashes, 7 (4).

The enforcement data shows (2022 total in parentheses): DUI arrests, 31 (26); speeding citations, 352 (341); child passenger seat citations, 26 (31); seat belt citations, 50 (47); occupant protection warnings, adult and children, 38 (54); other traffic citations, 836 (906); and self-initiated criminal arrest, 10 (33).
