Lansford man, father have charges withdrawn in shooting

Felony and other charges against a Lansford man and his father in an October shooting were withdrawn after the victims failed to appear for court Wednesday afternoon.

Justin Mendez, 22, and his father, Reinardo Mendez, 47, of Philadelphia, were charged in an Oct. 17 shooting in a first-floor apartment at 446 E. Bertsch St. in Lansford, where a man was shot in the arm.

Both Justin and Reinardo Mendez were charged with burglary, aggravated assault, criminal trespass, reckless endangerment, possession of a firearm, and simple assault.

Reinardo Mendez, who was identified by a witness as the shooter, was also charged with criminal attempt-homicide and criminal homicide.

Both men, who were free on bail, were scheduled to appear before District Judge Casimir Kosciolek for a preliminary hearing Wednesday afternoon.

All of the charges against both men were withdrawn, but could be re-filed at a later date.
