Carbon County has a new human resources director.

Last week, the county commissioners welcomed Samantha M. Ciallella of Jim Thorpe, who replaced longtime HR director Dawn Bowman, who retired on May 13.

“I think she’s going to bring some good ideas to us,” said Commissioner Rocky Ahner.

Ciallella, who moved from the HR benefits and billing coordinator position in the office, took over as director on May 22. She has worked in the county since 2021.

Ciallella holds a bachelor’s degree in human resources and worked on the corporate side before coming to the county.

“I’m excited for the opportunity,” she said, noting that she plans to leverage technology and update the system to benefit the employees.

Carbon County Salary Board, on May 4, set the position’s salary at $27.37 per hour.

In other hiring matters, the commissioners hired Ceilia Toolsee of Albrightsville as the new purchasing manager, effective June 5. She fills the vacancy created by the departure of Rhonda Wenrich earlier this year.
