Panther Valley graduate receives doctorate

Dr. Allysa M. Vavra of Coaldale graduated and received her Doctorate Degree in Podiatric Medicine from the Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine on May 8.

Allysa was a 2008 graduate of Panther Valley High School where she was a 17-time District XI Champion and 5-time PA State Swimming Champion.

She was inducted into the District XI Hall of Fame Inaugural Class in 2017. She attended Indiana University, Bloomington ’13 where she was a 7 time NCAA All American, 5 time Big Ten Champion, Big Ten Swimmer of the Year, member of USA Swimming National Team and Pan American Games Medalist.

Following her undergraduate career, she attended the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine where she earned her Master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences with a concentration in Forensic Medicine.

During her time at TUSPM, she was a member of the Stirling Harford DiPrimio Honorary Anatomical Society, received a graduation award in honor of Professor Vincent Jablon for her Excellence in Roentgenology, placed third at the American Podiatric Medical Association’s Abstract competition and was awarded many scholarships.

Allysa is the daughter of Geri and Dennis Vavra of Coaldale. In June, she will begin her four-year foot and ankle surgical residency at the Pennsylvania Presbyterian Medical Center and the University of Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia.
