Palmerton concert series starts Sunday

The region’s original summer concert series returns at 7 p.m. Sunday, June 4 in the Palmerton Borough Park. This year marks the 34th anniversary of the Palmerton Concert Series and will kick off with the Palmerton Band as the first of this year’s 13 concerts. In June and July, the concerts run from 7-8:30 p.m. and the August concerts run from 6:30-8 p.m. and are free for the public to enjoy.

“This year we have an exciting lineup,” says Concourse Club Bandstand Committee co-chair Joann Kercsmar. “In addition to the returning favorites, we will feature a few new bands to our series including Reservoir Hill and Mount Laurel Brass.”

The Mount Laurel Brass concert will be held on Sunday, July 16, and the band will perform a “Christmas in July” themed event featuring music from the Season. Along with the Palmerton Band, local favorites the Large Flowerheads, Steel Creek, Band of Brothers and the PA Villagers will be returning to the park. The Club would like to acknowledge the Smelas family, who is sponsoring the Allentown Band performance on Sunday, June 18 in memory of Bill Smelas.

In addition to the Sunday events, The Yankee Brass Band will perform on Friday, July 21. This concert is co-sponsored by the Concourse Club and the Palmerton Historical Society and will be held as part of Palmerton’s 125th Anniversary celebration. The Yankee Brass Band performs music of historical significance using antique brass and percussion instruments while dressed in period attire. The Band contacted the Historical Society to see about playing one of their five 2023 performances in the beautiful Palmerton Bandstand.
