Pedestrian hit by rig on turnpike

Debbie R. Hackett, 27, of Philadelphia, was seriously injured when she was walking on the roadway of the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike and was hit by a rig at 1:52 p.m. May 5.

It happened at mile marker 69.5 in Washington Township.

State police at the Pocono barracks said she was transported by Cetronia Ambulance Corps personnel to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township. Police said she had major injuries.

Police said she got out of her 2007 Honda that was parked on the northbound shoulder and entered the roadway where she was struck by a tractor trailer driven by Robert B. Blowers, 45, of Tunkhannock.
