Company loses $68,000 in electronic theft

State police at the Fern Ridge barracks are investigating a theft by deception case in which a local company lost $68,000 after a sale it offered was intercepted electronically.

Police said they were summoned at 10:40 a.m. May 18 to a property on Recreation Drive in Chestnuthill Township where the business, Educational Solutions Enterprises, facilitates the sale of electronic items to educational institutions. Police said one of its recent sales to a known company was intercepted and resubmitted to the company for payment.

Police said the new invoice contained an account and routing number that was fraudulent and the company sent payment of $68,000 to the fictitious account.
