Driver leaves scene of Towamensing crash

State police at the Lehighton barracks said the driver fled the scene after his vehicle went through an intersection without stopping for a stop sign and hit another vehicle.

Police said it happened at 2:19 p.m. May 15 at the intersection of Firehouse and Church roads in Towamensing Township.

The fleeing vehicle was southbound when it struck the rear passenger’s side of a 2008 Dodge Dakota driven by John H. Knittle Jr., 63, of Kunkletown, who was westbound on Firehouse Road at the time.

Police said the striking vehicle left the scene. The victim said it appeared to be a maroon SUV.

Knittle was uninjured.
