May 22, 1965 - Palmerton’s Duane Costenbader and Pete Perich both earn top-five finishes at the annual PIAA Track and Field Championships, held at University Park. Costenbader, who was unbeaten in the 880 during the season, takes third at the state’s Class B meet with a time of 1:58.0. Perich, meanwhile, captures fifth place in the broad jump. Other area athletes who fail to medal but participate at the meet include the Blue Bombers’ George Kutta (high jump, pole vault), Dave Snyder (220, 440), Charlie Shupp (shot put, discus) and Wayne Heintzelman (mile), and Lehighton’s Carl Wolfe (discus) and Bob Hunsicker (broad jump).
