NL curriculum
Northern Lehigh School Board approved the following matters:
Curriculum and instruction
• Renewed the Renaissance Accelerated Reader, Star Math, and Star Reading contract for the 2023-2024 school year for $9,800 for Slatington Elementary School. Funding through the Slatington Elementary School Budget.
• Tammy Fristick, helping teacher, for Samuel Yadush, inductee or new teacher, at a stipend of $800.
• To enter into a partnership agreement with Pennsylvania State University in order to provide the district’s students with greater options to earn concurrent high school/college credit. The term of the Dual Credit Affiliation Agreement between the district and Penn State will be through May 8, 2028.
• As per the recommendation of the administration, authorized Community Services for Children to operate the Head Start Pre-K program at Peters Elementary School from Aug. 1 through July 31, 2024. The only obligation to the district is to provide one classroom.
• An affiliation agreement between the district and Mercyhurst University for a teacher preparation program. The program allows pre-service teachers at Mercyhurst University to complete their clinical education experiences in the district. The period for this partnership agreement is Sept. 1, through Aug. 31, 2028.
Conferences
• Nichole Fink, Orientation to School Food Operations, May 3 to 4, Harrisburg, with a cost of $204 to be funded through the cafeteria budget.
• Dr. Tania Stoker, Oct. 17 to 20, 2023, WIDA Annual Conference, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, with the cost of registration, $615, lodging, $537, travel, $500, and meals, $90, for a total $1,742, to be funded from the assistant superintendent budget.
• Allyson DeHart, July 17 to 19, Nonviolent Crisis Intervention, Initial Instructor Training, Allentown, with the cost of registration, $4,249, travel, $67, and meals, $45, for a total $4,361, to be funded through the PCCD Mental Health Grant.
Policy
• The initial club/activity application for the Slatington Elementary Sixth Grade Student Council Club. The club will adhere to the guidelines within Policy No. 122. The shared stipend for Amber Wanamaker and Melissa Coppolecchia for the 2023-2024 school year will be $200 ($100 per adviser).
• Granted homebound instruction for an 11th grade student, for five hours per week, effective May 5 and continuing until around the last student day of the 2023-2024 school year.
