Northern Lehigh School District has received a state school enrollment grant for students to engage in dual enrollment courses.
Superintendent Dr. Matthew J. Link said last week the district was one of only two schools in Lehigh County to receive the full amount of the Pennsylvania Department of Education Dual Enrollment Grant.
Dual enrollment is a program that allows eligible high school juniors or seniors the opportunity to earn up to 4 credits per semester towards future university degree programs.
“We received $75,000 to help our students engage in dual enrollment course work, and that will go toward everything for our tuition and materials to help those students participate in dual enrollment courses that they may not be able to otherwise.
“There was only 100 education entities in the entire state that received that grant. It will go a long way to help our students engaging in higher education course work.”
Librarian recognized
Also on Monday, Link announced that Shawn Green, who serves as librarian at Slatington Elementary School and Peters Elementary School, was recently recognized by the Pennsylvania School Library Association.
“He was selected by his peers for his extraordinary library program here at Peters Elementary and Slatington Elementary,” Link said.
