Local Roundup: Results from April 24

Panther Valley and Northwestern both had walk-off wins in baseball action Monday.

The Panthers downed Schuylkill Haven, while the Tigers upended Notre Dame.

Elsewhere, three Pleasant Valley pitchers combined on a no-hitter.

BASEBALL

Sch. Haven-Panther Valley

Michael Pascoe hit a three-run, walk-off homer in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift Panther Valley to a 9-6 Schuylkill League victory over Schuylkill Haven.

The win keeps the Panthers undefeated at 14-0 overall and 8-0 in the league, while Haven dropped to 11-2 and 6-2.

Pascoe finished the day 4-for-5 with four RBIs and also earned the win in relief, striking out six in 3 1/3 innings.

PV starter Stephen Hood, who struck out seven in 4 2/3 innings, also went 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI. Brody Breiner added three hits and scored two runs, while Chase Weaver chipped in with a hit and two runs.

For Haven, Trae Sanders collected two hits and two RBIs.

NDGP-Northwestern

Wesley George’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning gave Northwestern a 1-0 Colonial League walk-off win over Notre Dame Green Pond.

Eli Zimmerman opened the home ninth with a walk and moved to third on singles by Austin Eisenhard and Shaun O’Donnell. George then lifted a fly to the outfield that plated Zimmerman with the winning run.

O’Donnell pitched eight shutout innings for the Tigers, allowing just two hits and three walks while striking out nine. Chase Moyer tossed a scoreless ninth to earn the victory.

Joshua Lichman finished with a pair of hits for Northwestern, which upped its mark to 9-6 overall and 7-5 in the league.

The Crusaders, who received eight shutout innings from Jameson Stell, dropped to 5-10 and 3-10.

Williams Valley-Marian

Marian was held to just one hit, but still pulled out a 3-2 Schuylkill League victory over Williams Valley.

Lachlan Segedy delivered an RBI single for the Colts, who also received a walk and a run from Brian Hinkle.

Jake Bobish earned the pitching win with three shutout innings in relief of Hinkle.

Marian improved to 6-7 overall and 3-5 in the league, while the Vikings fell to 6-7 and 4-4.

ES North-Pleasant Valley

Blake Walters, Jack Smale, and Aiden Fava combined on a five-inning no-hitter as Pleasant Valley posted a 13-0 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over East Stroudsburg North.

Walters struck out four in three innings, while Smale and Fava both threw an inning and fanned two.

Nathan Loch had two hits, one a homer, and knocked in four runs. The Bears, who used an 11-run third inning to break open the game, also received two hits and two RBIs from Ryan Adamski.

Fava finished with two RBIs, while Mike Konopke added a pair of runs.

Pleasant Valley upped its mark to 9-7 overall and 8-6 in the league. The Timberwolves slipped to 0-12.

Palmerton-So. Lehigh

Southern Lehigh used a five-run fourth inning to gain a 5-1 Colonial League victory over Palmerton.

Avery Koser delivered a two-run single for the Spartans, while Corey Trump and Chris Fritts both finished with two hits and an RBI.

The Bombers’ Chase Reph pitched three scoreless innings before running into trouble in the fourth.

Daniel Lucykanish had a hit and scored a run for Palmerton, now 9-5 overall and 7-5 in the league, while Jacob Grammes added a double.

The win lifted Solehi to 12-1 and 11-1.

Jim Thorpe-Blue Mountain

Tyler Miller homered and knocked in five runs to help power Blue Mountain to a 10-5 Schuylkill League victory over Jim Thorpe.

The Eagles also received three hits and two runs from Kory Faust, while winning pitcher Robert Gormley allowed just four hits and one earned run in six innings.

For the Olympians, Garrett Lienhard had two hits and scored a run. Jack Edwards contributed a hit and an RBI. Chip Baldassano and Matthew Domski both finished with a hit and a run.

Thorpe dropped to 3-11 overall and 2-6 in the league. Blue Mountain, which clinched a district playoff berth, improved to 9-4 and 6-1.

Lehighton-Tamaqua

Tamaqua’s Hailey Williams delivered a two-run double in the fifth inning to help the Blue Raiders earn a 3-2 Schuylkill League victory over Lehighton.

Williams finished the contest with two hits, both of them doubles, while teammate Kolbe Robb added a pair of hits.

Winning pitcher Paige Bumbulsky allowed just five hits and three walks while striking out 12.

For the Indians, Mia Snyder and Maggie Pagotto both finished with two hits. Pagotto scored a run, while Snyder had an RBI. Lehighton hurler Abby Miller pitched well in defeat, giving up just one earned run while fanning eight.

Tamaqua is now 4-10 overall and 2-7 in the league. The Indians fell to 6-8 and 3-6.

Palmerton clinched a district playoff berth with a 3-2 Colonial League victory over Southern Lehigh.

Carly Gaffney pitched a six-hitter for the Blue Bombers, striking out 10. At the plate, she collected three hits - one a double - and an RBI.

Palmerton, now 10-5 overall and 8-4 in the league, also received two hits from Emily Christopher and a single and two RBIs from Cadee Munjone.

The loss dropped the Spartans to 6-9 and 5-7.

Jordyn Hemingway collected her 100th-career hit as Northern Lehigh rolled to a 12-2 non-league victory over Notre Dame East Stroudsburg.

Heminway finished 3-for-3 with three RBIs to help the Bulldogs improve to 9-5.

Kate Snyder ended with four hits and four RBIs, while Haylie Fenstermaker added a pair of hits and two RBIs.

Winning pitcher Emma Smith scattered six hits and struck out six in six innings of work.

The Spartans fell to 5-5.

Winning pitcher Madisyn vonFrisch struck out nine and helped her cause with two hits and two RBIs.

The Wreckers, now 8-4 overall and 4-4 in the league, also received a 3-for-3 effort and an RBI from Rachel Rosenlund. Anastasia Bloom contributed with a pair of hits and two RBIs.

The loss dropped Nativity to 5-9 and 2-6.

A stellar pitching performance by Sage Smeltz helped Williams Valley gain a 6-1 Schuylkill League victory over Marian.

Smeltz allowed five hits and three walks while striking out 11. She received offensive support from Kayla Hand, who finished with three hits and an RBI.

For the Fillies, now 8-4 overall and 4-4 in the league, Malina Letcher delivered an RBI single, driving in Danica Karlick.

Williams Valley moved to 9-5 and 6-2.

Blue Mountain cruised to an 11-1 Schuylkill League victory over Jim Thorpe.

Olivia Labe allowed six hits and recorded six strikeouts over five innings for the Eagles, now 12-2 overall and 9-0 in the league.

Lindsay Gibson, Madison Heim and Avery Hudock all had two hits for the winners, while Gibson also knocked in two runs.

For the Olympians, who fell to 1-12 and 0-9, Melina Schwartz and Amanda Goodchild both had two hits.

Schuylkill Haven clinched a district playoff berth with a 15-0 Schuylkill League victory over Panther Valley.

Katie Wank had three hits and three RBIs for the Hurricanes, who are now 10-5 overall and 6-2 in the league.

For the Panthers, Mikayla Yuricheck finished with two of her team’s three hits.

The loss dropped PV to 5-9 and 2-6.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Saucon Vy.-Pleasant Vy.

Abygail Borger recorded her 100th-career save during Pleasant Valley’s 15-6 victory over Saucon Valley.

Borger finished the contest with four stops, helping the undefeated Bears improve to 13-0.

Devon Bush scored seven goals for PV, while Rylee Rath tallied five times. Olivia Iandoli also contributed a goal and five assists.

Keylee Dugey chipped in with two goals and an assist, while Morgan Ryals and Alivia Rath both added a helper.
