Panther Valley’s baseball team officially clinched a district playoff berth Monday with a win over Nativity.

BASEBALL

Panther Valley-Nativity

Panther Valley became the first area baseball team to clinch a district playoff berth as it cruised to a 13-2 Schuylkill League victory over Nativity.

Tyler Black allowed just one hit and struck out 10 in the five-inning contest as the Panthers improved to 10-0 overall and 6-0 in the league.

Chase Weaver finished 3-for-3 with a double and four runs scored, while Cody Orsulak and Hayden Goida both added two hits and three RBIs.

PV also received two hits, one a triple, and two RBIs from Stephen Hood. Drew Kokinda chipped in with several hits and an RBI.

The double-digit win was the seventh this season for the Panthers.

Saucon Valley-Lehighton

Saucon Valley jumped out to an early lead and cruised to an 11-1 non-league victory over Lehighton.

The Panthers scored nine times in the second inning to help improve their record to 7-2.

Rocky Viscito paced the winners with three hits and three RBIs, while Ron Werkheiser added a pair of hits and also drove in three runs.

The Indians, whose three-game winning streak was snapped, fell to 8-4. They were held to just three hits - which came from Ian Rarick, Adam Bastone and Derek Behler.

Schuylkill Haven-Marian

A strong pitching performance by Ryan Schaeffer helped Schuylkill Haven post a 5-2 Schuylkill League victory over Marian.

Schaeffer scattered six hits and two runs over the full seven innings and struck out nine.

Gavin White had a triple and two RBIs for the Hurricanes, who have won eight in a row and improved to 9-1 overall. In the league, Haven is 5-1.

The Colts received a double, a run and an RBI from Chase Petrilyak, while Jake Bobish added a hit and an RBI. Brian Hinkle chipped in with a hit and a run.

The loss dropped Marian to 5-6 and 2-4.

Tamaqua-Blue Mountain

Blue Mountain scored six runs in the first inning and went on to defeat Tamaqua, 10-0, in a Schuylkill League contest.

Ryan Grace delivered a triple and knocked in three runs for the Eagles. He also scored two runs.

Winning pitcher Dylan Sattazahn tossed four no-hit innings and struck out seven.

Cooper Ansbach had the Raiders’ only hit, a single in the fifth off reliever Bryce Woll.

Blue Mountain upped its mark to 7-2 overall and 5-1 in the league. Tamaqua slipped to 5-4 and 3-3.

Northern Lehigh snapped a four-game losing streak with an 8-4 Colonial League victory over Moravian Academy.

Chris Vargos earned the pitching win for the Bulldogs, while Conner Simms gained the save.

The win lifts Nolehi to 2-9 overall.

SOFTBALL

Schuylkill Haven-Marian

Marian’s Morgan Kelly struck out 17, but the Fillies were hurt by five errors and suffered a 4-3 Schuylkill League loss to Schuylkill Haven.

Kelly finished with a four-hitter and also walked four.

Malina Letcher collected two hits, one a double, and two runs for Marian, who fell to 8-2 overall and 5-2 in the league.

The Hurricanes (7-5; 4-2) received a home run from Chloey Homan.

Pleasant Vy.-Stroudsburg

Stroudsburg earned a 5-1 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win over Pleasant Valley.

Roman Stever provided the Bears their only team point with a straight-set victory at No. 2 singles.

The loss ended PV’s regular season at 7-9, while the Mounties moved to 8-8.
