Walnutport’s Diamond Fire Company wrote a letter to Slatington Borough council to make right a mistake.
Slatington Borough council chairman Thomas Bartholomew read a letter from Diamond Fire Chief Michael Wentz at the council meeting Monday night.
Wentz said a statement made at the Slatington council meeting on Feb. 13 and recorded in their minutes was incorrect. The statement was that Northern Valley Emergency Medical Services Inc. “NOVA” of Slatington paid Diamond $600 a month for rent of their facilities.
Wentz said the fire department did not receive $600 a month or any amount for rent when NOVA was staying there. NOVA did make donations at various times, but it wasn’t rent.
“We felt at the time Nova EMS moved into our facility that there was a need for that service to be present in the Northern Lehigh area and did not want to ask for anything in return,” Wentz said. “We felt then, as we do now, that the need for this service was paramount to our communities.”
In the letter, Wentz asked that his letter be read at Slatington’s next council meeting, so it could become part of the record of the minutes.
Neither Bartholomew nor any of the council members made any comment about the letter.
