Ross Township awards bids for road work
The Ross Township supervisors opened three bid packages for planned road work during their monthly meeting on Monday.
“We have about $248,000 from this year’s liquid fuels allotment and $250,000 we held over from last year, when we didn’t do any road work because of the high petroleum costs,” said David Shay, vice chairman.
Two of the bids were competing for black top projects on a few township roads.
The H&K Group and Heidelberg Materials, Aggregates and Asphalt gave base bids for sections of Cindy Lane, Antler Lane and Pheasant Road. They also included bids for alternate roads to be completed, including Parsons Court, Singer Court and Stoneridge Court.
H&K’s total bid was about $10,000 higher than Heidelberg’s. Supervisors passed the motion to accept Heidelberg’s bid. The work includes a scratch/leveling course and a wearing course.
Although the bids included quotes for 4-inch double yellow center line with glass beads, the supervisors voted to wait until the Council of Governments posts its price for line painting, which tends to be half the price of the bids given by paving companies.
The third bid was from Asphalt Maintenance Solutions of Center Valley to do tar and chipping on sections of Mountain Ridge, Meixsell Valley and Blue Ridge roads. The bid was about $157,000.
The supervisors accepted the bid and hired AMS to do the work.
