Plaque dedication in Jim Thorpe park on Sunday

A plaque in memory of the late Bob Handwerk, who purchased and restored the historic Harry Packer Mansion in Jim Thorpe, will be dedicated in Kemmerer Park in Jim Thorpe on Sunday.

Handwerk died last year.

The dedication will begin at 2:30 p.m. Handwerk’s widow, Pat, will attend.

Jack Sterling, president of the Kemmerer Park Association, will also speak.

The Handwerks, who lived in Philadelphia, bought the Harry Packer Mansion in 1983 for $83,000. At the time, the roof leaked and it was quickly falling into disrepair.

The Handwerks restored the marveled structure, which sits next to the famed Asa Packer Mansion.

Bob Handwerk served on the Kemmerer Park Commission from 1983 until his death.
