Carbon County courts - Sentencing

Carbon County Judge Joseph J. Matika this week sentenced six people to probation.

Melanie Osie Dale, 39, of Wilkes-Barre, was charged by Lansford Police officer Shawn M. Nunemacher with being a habitual offender, possession of a controlled substance, use/possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while her operating privileges were suspended or revoked, and driving without a license on Dec., 23, 2016. Matika sentenced her to 12 months on probation, undergo a drug and alcohol evaluation, and perform 50 hours of community service.

She was also ordered to pay a LiveScan fee of $100 and a $50 monthly supervision fee.

Michael Searfoss, 36, of Albrightsville, was charged by Kidder Township Police officer Jonathan E. Yaskiewicz with possession of a controlled substance and possessing drug paraphernalia on July 18, 2022.

Matika placed him on probation for six months, and ordered him to pay a $50 monthly supervision fee and a LiveScan fee of $100; undergo a drug and alcohol evaluation; perform 25 hours of community service.

Robert Clarence Hester, 37, of Tamaqua, was charged by Lehighton State Trooper Justin A. Swartz with theft by unlawful taking; using a counterfeit, altered, or incomplete access device; using an access device that has been access device has been revoked or canceled; and two counts of bad checks.

Matika sentenced Hester to one year on probation and to perform 50 hours of community service.

Latika also ordered him to pay $185.52 restitution to Hearn Enterprises; to pay a LiveScan fee of $100 and a $50 monthly supervision fee.

Richard Kyle Shafer, 30, of Stroudsburg, was charged by Lehighton State Trooper Charles P. Inserra with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia on Aug. 30, 2022.

Matika sentenced him to one year on probation, perform 50 hours of community service, undergo a drug and alcohol evaluation, and to pay a $50 monthly supervision fee.

Jose Martin Soto, 46, of Mt. Pleasant Mills, Snyder County, was charged by Fern Ridge State Trooper William F. Golden with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, driving under the influence of a controlled substance, and driving without a license on May 8, 2018.

Matika sentenced him to one year on probation, perform 50 hours of community service, undergo a drug and alcohol evaluation, and to pay a $50 monthly supervision fee.

Joseph Salvador, 43, of Ringtown, was charged by Weatherly Police officer Michael C. Bogart with two felony counts of criminal conspiracy engaging in criminal mischief or tampering with property; receiving stolen property; tampering with/fabricating physical evidence; obstructing police; theft from a motor vehicle; and defiant trespass on posted property on Nov. 21, 2020.

Matika sentenced him to one year on probation, pay $214.88 in restitution to the Weatherly Police Department; perform 50 hours of community service, and to pay a LiveScan fee of $100 and a $50 monthly supervision fee.
