Tamaqua man charged with threatening his father

A Tamaqua man, who is a felon, has been charged with threatening to shoot his father’s head off during an argument.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by state police at Lehighton in the case against Elijah Frey:

At 5:50 p.m. March 4, police were dispatched to a home in the 200 block of E. Railroad Street in Nesquehoning, regarding a disturbance between a father and son.

The father reported that his son, Frey, 26, threatened him.

The father told police he and his son had a verbal altercation that evening.

During the altercation, Frey told his father that he is going to “blow his head off.”

As a result, the father told Frey that he was calling the police on him, at which time Frey left the residence.

The father told troopers that his son had a gun inside their residence, and told police that his son is a felon and not allowed to possess any firearms.

State police did a criminal-background check on Frey, which revealed that he has a felony conviction, which is listed under the enumerated offenses, and is not allowed to have a gun.

Upon troopers clearing the residence, they observed a black-colored firearm magazine containing multiple ammunition charges inside an open box in Frey’s bedroom. Troopers then secured the scene.

Police obtained a search warrant and served it to the owner of the residence. Inside the house, troopers found firearms, ammunition, and firearm accessories.

Frey faces charges on three counts each of possession of firearm prohibited and possessing instrument of crime with intent, along with one count of terroristic threats.

In a preliminary hearing Wednesday, charges were held for Frey, who is in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $50,000 monetary bail.
