Carbon County Commissioners

The Carbon County Commissioners acted on or discussed the following items during their weekly meeting on Thursday.

• Tawny Delich of Palmerton was appointed to fill the vacancy on the animal shelter advisory commission. The term expires Dec. 31, 2024. Before the vote, Commissioner Chris Lukasevich aired his concerns about not having enough variety of people on the commission, specifically the current gender makeup of the commission, and hopes that in the future, the board will appoint a man to serve on the commission.

• Accepted $20,000 from the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention, National Network of Public Health Institutes and International Association of Coroners. The money will be used to purchase supplies to assist in the timely and comprehensive data sharing with vital records offices and public health agencies associated with the coroner’s office.

• Amended the cooperative grant agreement with the Pennsylvania Fish and Game Commission for additional of $25,355.48 for new restrooms and paving improvements to boat launch B at Mauch Chunk Lake Park. The county will provide 53.8% cash match toward the project.

• Hired: Deanna E. McMahon of Lehighton, part-time kennel worker, animal shelter; and Rochelle E. Miller of White Haven, aging case aide II, Area Agency on Aging, both effective March 20.

• Prison board appointments: Tara M. Devitt of Lehighton, part-time corrections officer; and Hailey I. Duncan of Coaldale, corrections officer, both effective March 20.

• Change of status: Kumra Vukelj of Tamaqua, from coordinator for Temporary Assistance for Needy Families and Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, to caseworker, WIOA, effective March 13.

• Court appointment: Tyler J. Berger of Nesquehoning, IT specialist, courts, effective March 20.

• Change of status: Dianna M. Berry of Hazleton, from secretary I to secretary II, district magistrate, Weatherly, effective March 13.

• Sheriff change of status: Timothy M. Hornbaker of Bethlehem, from special deputy sheriff to sergeant, effective March 10.
