Summit Hill man charged in domestic incident

A Summit Hill man has been charged in a domestic incident.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by the Summit Hill Police Department in the case against Jason Shemansik:

At 9:25 p.m. Feb. 16, police were called to a home on West Walter Street Rear for a report of a domestic.

The Carbon County Communications Center said they received a 911 call from the cousin of the victim.

The caller advised the Comm Center the victim texted her “Please call 911 for me.”

Officers met with the victim, who said she was being verbally and physically abused since about 3 a.m.

The victim said that on that morning, Shemansik, 50, struck her multiple times throughout the day with open and closed fists.

The victim said that Shemansik also held a knife to her neck twice while threatening to kill her.

She said Shemansik ripped some of her hair out of her head while he was hitting her in the bathroom. Police said she had a red mark on her chin and she complained of jaw pain.

Shemansik was taken into custody and admitted he pulled the victim’s hair and it was possible he pulled a chunk out.

Police recovered a huge chunk of the victim’s hair from the bathroom floor and a silver knife with a brown wooden handle from the kitchen sink that the victim alleges was used during the incident.

Shemansik faces charges of aggravated assault; terroristic threats; simple assault; and harassment.

Shemansik is incarcerated in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $100,000 monetary bail, and is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing March 1 before District Judge Casimir T. Kosciolek of Lansford.
