Eldred Township supervisors deal with mold issue
Eldred Township supervisors heard an update last week on mold in the modular units behind the thrift store at the community center.
The mold was discovered in December.
Public Works Supervisor Jonathan Gula said the insurance claim has been submitted with estimates on the cost of the remediation of the mold.
Gula believes once a demolition permit is issued, the Public Works crew will be able to demolish the moldy modulars and dispose of the debris for approximately $13,000.
Donna Deihl reported that the new storage plan at Eldred Township Community Center Thrift Store is working and the amount of inventory is back up.
She is in need of more shelving and will determine what type, size and quantity of shelving she needs and submit the request to the board.
She also reported that a new vacuum is needed; the board members instructed the secretary to purchase a new one.
Gula also gave an estimate for several new pieces of equipment: A zero turn mower, $999, and a new steam jenny from HWA in Allentown, $7,348.00. Both pieces are co-stars vendors.
A motion by Blaine Silfies was seconded by Scott Clark to approve the purchase of the two pieces of equipment.
Bridge update
Chairman and Emergency Management Coordinator Gary Hoffman presented a report from a bridge inspection done by PennDOT on the old stone arch bridge near the Kunkletown General Store.
The report the township received on the bridge said the bridge was in need of substantial repairs and the inspector deemed the bridge unsafe for vehicle traffic as well as pedestrian traffic.
The board requested the Parks and Recreation Committee obtain estimates for the repairs and if it is feasible to look into any possible grant money.
Because of the closing of the access off Chestnut Ridge Drive, the Fish and Game Commission has requested access to the Buckwha from the township property.
There was a motion by Gary Hoffman and seconded by Scott Clark to approve the use of the township property by the Fish and Game Commission to stock the Buckwha Creek.
Parks and recreation
Denise Yarashas presented a check in the amount of $100 to the board for the use of Parks and Recreation.
This will be used to reimburse the township for the cost of joining the Pennsylvania Parks and Recreation Society, a requirement of the grant from that organization for $2,500 for a peer consultant for a landscaping plan.
The Pennsylvania Parks and Recreation society chose a local landscaper Jason Woods, from Nazareth as Eldred’s consultant. The parks committee is meeting with him on March 7 at the site to see how to view the site and start the process.
