Tamaqua bidding out clean up of two borough properties

The Tamaqua Area Community Partnership is looking for a contractor to clean out two properties it owns in the borough.

One, at 201 Cedar St., is a two-story garage that formerly housed the U.S. Towing Service. It stretches from Cedar Street to East Cottage Avenue.

The other, a 1.2 acre parcel at 0 Greenwood St., was used as a junkyard.

The partnership purchased the blighted properties, along with another at 219 Cedar St., from the same owner in July. The 219 Cedar St. property was collapsing and was recently demolished.

The goal is to eliminate blight and re-purpose the properties, said Micah Gursky, the partnership’s executive director.

According to a project manual, the contractor will be required to move all items, including “fuel tanks, miscellaneous barrels, tires, filing cabinets, refrigerators, waste oil heating unit, wood, scaffolding, debris, etc.” from the properties.

The partnership will receive bids online through the PennBid Program (http://PennBid.ProcureWare) until 3 p.m. March 8.

Anticipated start dates are April 3 for 201 Cedar St. and Sept. 4 for 0 Greenwood St.

Advertisements for bids are in the Feb. 16 and 20 editions of the Times News.
