Turnpike crashes

State police at the Pocono barracks released information on turnpike crashes:

• A Carbon County driver was involved in a one-vehicle crash along the northeast extension of the turnpike.

Police said Jeffrey W. Covelens, 57, of Jim Thorpe, was driving a 2016 Kia Soul northbound on the Mahoning Valley exit ramp in Franklin Township, Carbon County, when he lost control of the vehicle. The Kia spun out and struck an embankment.

Covelens was not injured. He cited for the crash.

• Police reported a two-vehicle crash at 8:21 a.m. on Jan. 31 along the northeast extension of the turnpike in Penn Forest Township.

Troopers said Daniel S. Hollywood, 30, of Albrightsville, was driving a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe southbound. There was a moderate accumulation of snowfall in the area, leaving some roadways icy and hazardous.

Hollywood lost control of his vehicle while negotiating a sharp right turn. His vehicle then struck a 2021 Dodge Ram truck driven by Ethan A. Delgado, 21, of Lehighton.

The Santa Fe sustained heavy front end damage and was towed. The Ram sustained moderate damages and was driven from the scene. No injuries were reported.

Hollywood was cited for driving a vehicle at a unsafe speed.

• A Carbon County driver was involved in a two-vehicle crash along the northeast extension of the turnpike in East Penn Township on Jan. 6 at 6:35 p.m.

Police said Andrea M. Whitaker, 45, of Lehighton, was driving a 2012 Ford Focus northbound in the right lane when she veered to the left with her vehicle striking a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado truck driven by Nancy Lazarus, 59, of Howell, New Jersey.

No injuries were reported.
