A Schuylkill County woman was killed in a three-vehicle crash that occurred at 1:12 p.m. on Feb. 4 at the intersection of routes 61 and 895 in Deer Lake.

Troopers identified the deceased as Ruth Bressler, 85, of Auburn. She was flown from the scene by helicopter to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest, where she later died.

Troopers gave the following details of the crash.

Bressler was driving a 2011 Chevrolet Malibu eastbound on 895 and crossing 61 when she failed to stop for a steady red light. Her vehicle was struck by a 2019 Freightliner tractor with trailer driven by Bonnie A. Szilli, 54, of Mohrsville, Berks County, who was southbound on 61. After impact the Malibu began to spin and was struck in the rear by a 2004 Toyota Sienna driven by Douglas G. Newmoyer Jr., 68, of Pottsville, who was northbound on 61.

Bressler was entrapped in her vehicle and had to extricated by rescue personnel. Newmoyer and his passenger, Victoria D. Mock, 49, of Pottsville, were injured and taken to St. Luke’s-Geisinger Hospital, Orwigsburg. Szilli was not injured.

The Malibu and Sienna had to be towed. The truck was driven from the scene.
