The Jim Thorpe girls basketball qualified for the district playoffs by defeating Nativity on Saturday.

Jim Thorpe officially punched its ticket to the district playoffs with a 44-40 non-league victory over Nativity.

Mackenzie Yuhas scored eight of her team-high 15 points in the fourth quarter to help the Olympians hold off the Golden Girls.

The winners also received 13 points from Gabby Cinicola. Nativity’s Madison Kramer led all scorers with 21 points.

The victory lifts Thorpe to 11-10 overall, while Nativity fell to 5-13.

BOYS BASKETBALL

NW-Brandywine Heights

With a chance to clinch a district playoff spot, Northwestern dropped a 49-40 non-league contest to Brandywine Heights.

The Tigers, now 10-11 overall, can still reach the postseason if they defeat Catasauqua Tuesday in their regular season finale.

Northwestern’s Cayden Fitch scored a team-high 14 points against Brandywine, but the Bullets used a 15-6 third quarter to take control of the game.

The Tigers also received 13 points from Gavin Nelson, while Brandywine was led by Tommy Clark’s game-high 15 points.

N. Schuylkill-Jim Thorpe

North Schuylkill secured its eighth-straight win with a 56-33 Schuylkill League victory over Jim Thorpe on Friday.

Zane Zulkowski scored 10 of his game-high 22 points in the second quarter as the Spartans (17-3; 12-1) turned a one-point lead into a 29-19 halftime advantage. Jack Keiter added 21 points in the win.

Andrew Warner paced the Olympians (9-12; 5-8) with 13 points.

WRESTLING

Conestoga Valley Duals

Tamaqua took part in the Rally in the Valley Duals over the weekend.

The Blue Raiders fell to Waynesboro 46-16 in the quarterfinals and suffered a 51-24 setback against Muhlenberg in their consolation round match before falling to Hanover 30-27 in the seventh-place match.

Gabe Erbe went 3-0 for Tamaqua, posting a 6-0 decision over Waynesboro’s Steven Howard in his first match, and capping the day by pinning Hanover’s Connor Laughman in 2:53 in his final match.

Conestoga Valley topped Strath Haven 54-15 in the championship final of the event. Daniel Boone posted a 46-15 win over Waynesboro to take third place, while Muhlenberg beat Camp Hill 39-34 to finish fifth.
