Souper Bowl Day

Various area churches are celebrating Souper Bowl Sunday on Feb. 12.

Salem-St. Paul’s, Kresgeville, will celebrate the day at both the 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship services.

Foods brought for those services will be given to the PVEN food pantry. The pantry needs such items as cereal, tuna, pasta sauce, cake mix & frosting and mashed potatoes.

St. Matthew’s UCC, Kunkletown, is also asking folks to bring in cans of soup to donate to the West End Pantry and PVEN.

And the church is receiving cash donations for folks to vote for their favorite team. Said donations will be placed in the pertinent team-named container

In addition, the church is holding about the soup sale. Is it open to the community. Orders may be placed by calling the church at 610-381-2442.

Effort UMC will have soup pots in the narthex for donations of canned goods such as canned fruit, canned pasta, canned vegetables, canned sauces, etc. and non-perishables.

The church will also have a little competition involving the teams who will be playing in this year’s Super Bowl. Each soup pot will have a team name so folks can vote for the favorite by placing a donation in that particular pot. Donations should be in by Feb. 12.

Senior volunteers

For local Senior folks who need or want things to do, information about volunteering can be received through by contacting AmeriCorps Seniors / RSVP Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, Neal or Erica at 570-420-3747.

RSVP is looking for volunteers to help with medical transportation.

Monroe County Meals on Wheels is looking for volunteers to help deliver meals to homebound seniors and adults with disabilities.

Cookbooks ready

Due to production difficulties, The Secret Ingredient Uncovered Cookbook printing was delayed. The fundraiser for the county’s Senior Center activities is now ready for delivery and folks can order and pay for it at the Monroe County Area Agency on Aging at 724 Phillips Street, Stroudsburg, and then pick it up at the local Senior Center, which for the West End is at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville.

Soup sale set

Effort UMC has announced its last soup sale for the season. Being offered are chicken potpie and hearty vegetable soup.

Orders are being accepted through Feb. 22. Pickup is Feb. 26.

Maple sugaring

Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center has announced its maple sugaring programs for schools, groups and Scouts.

Those dates are Feb. 27 through March 10. Interested groups can call 570-629-3061 to schedule. There is a per person cost.

Almost Spring Craft & Vendor Fair

The Pleasant Valley High School Class of 2024 will be hosting the Almost Spring Craft & Vendor Fair on March 4, 2023 in the New Gym from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is free, and the concession stand will be open.
