The Marian boys basketball team continued its winning ways Friday night with a victory over Williams Valley.

In other action, Jim Thorpe’s wrestling team edged Tamaqua.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Marian-Williams Valley

The duo of Julius Currie and Frank Valente led Marian to another victory as the Colts slipped past Williams Valley, 63-52, in a Schuylkill League contest.

Currie finished with a game-high 23 points, 11 of them coming in the opening quarter. Valente, meanwhile, registered 20 points and added eight rebounds.

The winners, now 11-7 overall and 9-1 in the league, also received 14 points from Jesse Rodino. Joey Walko chipped in with eight boards.

Alex Achenbach paced the Vikings (6-12; 2-7) with 22 points.

Weatherly-Mahanoy Area

Mahanoy Area took control with a big second quarter and coasted to a 64-37 Schuylkill League victory over Weatherly.

Jace Yedsnea scored nine of his team-high 14 points in the second frame as the Golden Bears outscored the Wreckers by a 24-3 margin.

The Wreckers received a game-high 20 points from Ian McLaurin, while Jordan Mitchell chipped in with eight.

Weatherly dropped to 1-16 overall and 0-10 in the league. Mahanoy is now 14-4 and 7-3.

A big third quarter carried Catasauqua to a 55-48 Colonial League win over Northern Lehigh.

Bryann Rivera’s 16 points paced the Roughies (4-16, 4-11 CL), who erased a seven point halftime deficit by outscoring the Bulldogs 18-5 in the third quarter and 29-15 in the second half. Jeremiah Cofie added 11 points.

Bryce LoPinto had a game-high 19 points for the Bulldogs (1-19, 1-14), while Ethan Kunkle added 12 points on four 3-pointers.

CATASAUQUA

Lehighton-Pottsville

Pottsville cruised to a 56-29 Schuylkill League victory over Lehighton.

Rylen Matlock scored a game-high 14 points for the Crimson Tide, who pulled within one win of clinching a district playoff spot. Nick Chivinski chipped in with 13 points.

The Indians received a team-high seven points from Owen Serfass, while Joe Roth added six.

The loss dropped Lehighton to 8-11 overall and 3-8 in the league. The Tribe needs to win its remaining three games to qualify for districts. Pottsville upped its marks to 10-8 and 7-4.

A strong start helped Catasauqua secure a 37-31 Colonial League win over Northern Leigh.

Sophia Becker had 11 points and Haileu Jenkins added 10 for the Roughies (8-11), who led 12-0 after the first quarter and have now won three straight games.

Katelynn Barthold and Dekota Barthold each scored 10 points apiece for the Bulldogs (13-7).

A huge night from Layla Hernandez helped East Stroudsburg South rally past Pleasant Valley for a 43-38 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win.

Hernandez scored 11 of her game-high 28 points in the fourth quarter – going 9-of-11 from the foul line – as the Cavaliers (6-12) outscored the Bears 14-2 to erase a seven point deficit entering the period. Tyrah Smith added nine points in the win.

Aryn Stivala had 15 points for Pleasant Valley (4-14).

Steven Korte (114) and Ridge Snyder (139) had pins for the Olympians, who took advantage of three forfeits in the match.

Chase Zeigenfuss (133) had a pin for the Blue Raiders, while Jacob Schlier (152) and Jacob Hehn (172) each posted major decisions.

The Blue Raiders were led in scoring by Evan Meckes, who tallied seven points.

Lehighton-Tamaqua

Lehighton posted a 46-34 victory over Tamaqua.

Talin Fairchild led the Indians with 13 points, while Evan Meckes scored a team-high 10 points for Tamaqua.

Marian-Tamaqua

Jacob DeLa Cruz scored 14 points to help Marian gain a 58-26 victory over Tamaqua.

The Blue Raiders received a team-high 11 points from Luke Frohnheiser.

8TH GRADE

Weatherly-Lehighton

Weatherly rolled to a 34-17 victory over Lehighton.

Dominick Kokinda led the Wreckers with a game-high 15 points.

Cash White and Code Schaffer each had six points for the Indians.

Jim Thorpe-Panther Valley

Brody Schrantz had 12 points on offense and numerous blocked shots on defense to lead Jim Thorpe to a 41-29 win over Panther Valley.

Blaze Flyzik matched game-high honors with 12 for the Olympians.

The Panthers were paced by Tyler Hall’s eight points.

7TH GRADE

Weatherly-Lehighton

Weatherly cruised to a 39-10 win over Lehighton.

The Wreckers’ Mitchel Knock led all scorers with 14 points, while Kolton Reiner finished with 10.

Braylin Hunsicker led the Indians with four points.

Jim Thorpe-Panther Valley

Jim Thorpe withstood a fourth-quarter Panther Valley rally to hang on for a 27-26 win.

Blaze Flyzik was the leading scorer for the Olympians with 10 points.

For the Panthers, who outscored Thorpe 10-0 in the final period, Chase McArdle led the way with 10 points.

8TH GRADE

Jim Thorpe-Panther Valley

Panther Valley edged Jim Thorpe for a 29-27 victory.

The Panthers’ Ajete Gjoca posted a game-high 12 points.

Lees led the Olympians with 10 points.

Tamaqua-Marian

Millie Black scored a game-high 18 points to lead Tamaqua to a 46-13 victory over Marian.

The Blue Raiders also received 10 points from Lauren Ligenza and eight from Sophi Sitlinger.

The Fillies were led by B. Hannis-Miskar’s 10 points.

Sch. Haven-Tamaqua

Schuylkill Haven posted a 32-16 win over Tamaqua.

Runkle had 13 points for the Hurricanes, while McDonald tallied seven.
