PennDOT starts $5 million project in Tamaqua

Contractors began work this week on sidewalks in Tamaqua to make them accessible to those with disabilities.

The job signals the start of a $5.06 million project that will also involve the milling, base repair and paving of routes 209 and 309 in the borough.

According to PennDOT spokesman Sean Brown, Route 209/East Broad Street will be resurfaced from near Market Street in the borough to the Carbon County line.

In addition, Pine Street (Route 309 North) will be paved from Broad Street to the bridge, and North Railroad Street (Route 309 South) will be paved from an area near Thorn’s Cycles to the Five Points intersection.

“The project also includes curbing, ADA complaint curb ramps, and guide rail upgrades,” Brown said.

The initial work includes curbing and ramp work. Milling and paving can be expected in the spring, Brown said.

The completion date is estimated at the end of August.

Kriger Construction Inc. is the primary contractor.
