Winter weather advisory in effect until 7 p.m.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory through 7 p.m. today.

Mixed precipitation is expected. Total snow and sleet accumulations of 2 to 5 inches and ice accumulations of around one tenth of an inch. Winds are expected to gust as high as 40 mph.

Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning and evening commutes.

Snowfall rates potentially exceeding one inch per hour are possible during the day. The snow will continue into the afternoon before changing briefly to a wintry mix, then to plain rain into the evening.

Area schools have canceled or are on a flexible instruction basis.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission are asking people to reduce on highways after noon. Motorcycles, buses, lightly loaded box and tandem trucks and other at risk vehicles are restricted.
