Lehighton Police Log

Lehighton Borough Police Department reported on the following incidents:

• A 21-year-old Lehighton woman was the victim of fraud. Police said that on Jan. 12, the victim was selling an item online through and was issued a check from an unknown offender for a larger amount than what the seller was selling the item for. After receiving the check and depositing it, the victim was then contacted by the officer that they made a mistake on the amount, and requested the victim to send them back the over paid amount of the check. Before the victim realized the check was fraudulent, the victim ended up being out the amount of over $400.

• Shane Rex, 33, of Lehighton, has been charged with possession of methamphetamine and marijuana, for an incident that occurred at 5:45 p.m. Jan. 13. Police were dispatched to the 100 block of South Sixth Street for a report of a suspicious person. Rex was also wanted from State Parole. Rex was transported to the Carbon County Correctional Facility on the charges.

• A tow dolly was stolen from a backyard in the 500 block of Coal Street in Lehighton sometime between midnight and 3 p.m. Jan. 16. The dolly was described as an older model, 8-feet wide, brown dolly, with new silver fenders and tires, square taillights, and a pull pin that enables the wheels to turn right and left.

• Adam Orendach, 28, of Slatington, has been charged with DUI, possession of controlled substance/drug paraphernalia, and warrant service, for an incident that occurred at 5:05 p.m. Jan. 10 along Route 209 and Bridge Street. Orendach was stopped for an equipment violation and police said he appeared to be impaired. An outstanding warrant was pending for his arrest. He was taken into custody and determined to be in possession of a controlled substance, as well as drug paraphernalia. Sobriety testing was conducted. Orendach refused to submit to a chemical test and charges have been filed based on this arrest.

• A juvenile has been charged with assault following an incident that took place Jan. 9. Police said a student punched another student in the face. The victim did not require medical attention. The juvenile offender was cited for harassment. Police did not indicate where the incident occurred.

• A 51-year-old Lehighton man was taken into custody for suspicion of DUI after police responded to a report of a hit-and-run crash that took place at 2 p.m. Dec. 26. The man was operating a 2010 Chevrolet pickup and struck a 2017 Chevrolet Trax driven by a 69-year-old man from Nesquehoning while traveling on Route 209 near Dunbar’s Bottling. The offender drove from the scene and got into another crash, this time striking a 2003 Chevrolet pickup operated by a 24-year-old Lehighton man at the intersection of Bridge Street and Summit Avenue. When police made contact with the offender, he showed signs of intoxication and was subsequently taken into custody. No injuries were reported in either crash. The 2003 Chevrolet required towing.

The investigation is ongoing, and charges of DUI and other vehicle code violations are pending. Police did not release his name.

• Two men have been charged following an incident that took place at around 10 p.m. Jan. 12. Police said Travis Collins, 31, of Lehighton, and Patrick Collins, 25, of Bethlehem, were involved in a complaint handled by Lehighton Borough police. The complaint originated as a dog complaint, which evolved into an active, aggressive neighbor dispute. Threats were made by both of the offenders. Ultimately, both were taken into custody and processed at the Lehighton Borough Police Department.

During the transport back to the police department, Travis Collins began kicking the partition of a police vehicle. Patrick Collins was released, and two counts of persistent disorderly conduct have been filed.

Travis Collins was taken to Carbon County Correctional Facility. Bail was set at $5,000. He has been charged with criminal attempt - institutional vandalism, and two counts of persistent disorderly conduct.
