3-6 inches of snow Wednesday

Much of our area still remains on track for several inches of snow on Wednesday.

The National Weather Service has issued an advisory from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Snow is expected to start in the morning.

However, exactly how much is contingent on the changeover, said Tom Kines, a senior meteorologist with AccuWeather.

“I think our official forecast for Lehighton is 3 to 6 (inches), but it’s dependent on when the changeover to sleet and rain occurs,” Kines said. “I suspect when the snow comes in tomorrow, it’s possible that it could be heavy for a time.”

Kines said higher elevations could see between 5 to 6 inches of the white fluffy stuff.

“I think as we get close to that time of the changeover is when heavier precipitation is going to come in,” he said.

Kines stressed that those who need to drive on the roadways should allot themselves more time to do so.

“If you got to be out traveling tomorrow, anticipate it’s going to be a slow go, and the roads are not going to be in good shape initially until the crews get our there,” he said. “Certainly allow extra time tomorrow if you have to be out on the roads.”

Kines said the precipitation is expected to arrive Wednesday morning in the form of light snow, and will then pick up around noon, before it changes over to sleet and maybe freezing rain, and then eventually rain and drizzle.

He said the storm looks like it will come to an end Wednesday night.

Kines said we’re looking at the lower 30s for highs on Wednesday, though the temperature probably won’t drop a whole lot Wednesday night and likely stay in the lower 30s.

After the system leaves, he said Thursday should be mainly dry, with temperatures back up to close to 40.
