Palmerton’s Beth Morgan scored her 1,000th point Tuesday during a victory against Catasauqua.

Meanwhile, the Northern Lehigh girls clinched a district playoff spot with a win over Southern Lehigh.

In boys action, both Palmerton and Marian triumphed.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Catasauqua-Palmerton

Beth Morgan scored her 1,000th-career point during Palmerton’s 42-29 Colonial League victory over Catasauqua.

Morgan entered the contest needing just two points to reach the milestone and got it in the first quarter as the Blue Bombers grabbed a 7-0 lead.

The senior - the 12th Palmerton girls player to reach the coveted mark - scored a game-high 15 points to help the Bombers win their fifth straight game and improve to 14-1 overall and 11-0 in the league.

The winners also received eight points from Courtney Connell.

For the Roughies, now 5-10 and 2-9, Sophia Becker finished with a team-high seven points.

Aubrey Pollard poured in a game-high 22 points to help Northern Lehigh clinch a district playoff berth with a 44-32 Colonial League victory over Southern Lehigh.

Pollard tallied eight of her points in the first quarter as the Bulldogs jumped out to a 10-2 lead.

Katelynn Barthold also scored 10 points for Nolehi, which won its fourth straight game to improve to 11-5 overall and 7-4 in the league.

The Spartans (5-10; 5-6) received a team-high 13 points from Tessa Seagreaves.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Palmerton-Catasauqua

Palmerton rebounded from a slow start, and Matt Machalik continued his recent scoring spree as the Blue Bombers posted a 63-39 Colonial League victory over Catasauqua.

Machalik - who has averaged 22.3 points per game over his last six contests - tallied 33 against the Rough Riders. The junior netted 15 of his points in the fourth quarter to help the Bombers secure the win.

Palmerton, which trailed by nine points after the first quarter, also received 10 points from both Chase Reph and Brayden Hosier.

Jeremiah Cofie topped Catty with 11 points.

The Bombers are now 14-1 overall and 10-1 in the league. The Roughies fell to 2-14 and 2-9.

Lourdes-Marian

A big game from Frank Valente helped Marian win for the sixth straight time, defeating Lourdes 63-40 in a Schuylkill League matchup.

Valente poured in a game-high 30 points, including 15 during the first quarter in which the Colts raced to a 19-5 lead. For good measure, Valente also collected nine rebounds and had six steals.

The winners, now 9-6 overall and 7-0 in the league, also received 10 points from Jose Ramirez.

For the Red Raiders, Alex Hughes and Joey Feudale tied for team honors with 11 points.

Lehighton couldn’t maintain an early lead and eventually dropped a 52-41 Schuylkill League contest to host Blue Mountain.

Brogan Campbell scored a game-high 20 points for the Eagles, who trailed 9-2 after the first quarter and still faced a deficit at halftime.

The winners - currently the top seed in the District 11 Class 4A rankings with a 12-3 record - also received 12 points from Isaac Thomas.

Joe Roth finished with a team-high 14 points for the Indians, who fell to 8-8 overall and 3-5 in the league. Brayden Johnson contributed 13 points.

The Spartans had 13 different players score in the contest, with three of them - Max Pristas, Quincy Brunner and Joseph Plessl - all finishing with 10 points.

Connor Simms led all scorers with 19 points for the Bulldogs, who fell to 1-15 overall and 1-11 in the league.

Solehi, who built a 22-point first-quarter lead, is now 10-4 and 9-2.

Pleasant Valley-PM West

Pocono Mountain West rolled to a 69-41 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over Pleasant Valley.

The Panthers used five three-pointers in the opening quarter to jump out to a 17-6 league.

Julian Pagan hit two of those treys and finished the game with 14 points. Teammate Devin Artis also hit from deep range in the first and led all scorers with 15 points.

PV received a team-high 10 points from Zach Pandolfo, while Zach Prator chipped in with nine.

The Bears slipped to 6-8 overall and 4-7 in the league, while West improved to 12-2 and 10-2.

Tamaqua gave North Schuylkill all it could handle before eventually dropping a 53-45 Schuylkill League decision to the Spartans.

The Blue Raiders trailed by just two points entering the fourth quarter, but the host team used a 13-7 frame to secure the win and remain tied for first in the Division 1 standings.

Jack Keiter scored 25 points to pace North Schuylkill, while Zane Zulkowski contributed 18.

Tamaqua was led by Connor Dillon’s 17 points. Mason Ligenza also tallied 14 points for the Raiders (6-9; 2-6).

The win upped the Spartans to 9-3 overall and 7-1 in the league.

Kole Miller scored a game-high 19 points for the Bulldogs, who led by 30 points at the break. The winners also received 11 points from Dawson Manning.

The Wreckers received a team-high seven points from Ian McLaurin.

Tri-Valley, which has won nine straight games, is now 13-1 overall and 6-1 in the league. Weatherly is 1-13 and 0-8.

Jim Thorpe posted a 62-28 victory over Panther Valley.

The Olympians’ Pierce Gothard led all scorers with 23 points, while Joshua Louk finished with 14.

Danny Wehr scored eight points to lead the Panthers.
