Officers help Slatington man through ‘No Shave November’

They passed on shaving, but not to the point where they appeared to be disheveled.

Officers from both the Slatington and Walnutport police departments participated in “No Shave November” to help a Slatington man, who is a cashier at Giant Food Store in Walnutport.

They gathered recently to present Jonathan Videria with the $420 in funds they raised through the campaign.

This was the fourth consecutive year the two departments participated in the monthlong campaign which allows officers to grow facial hair for the months of November and December.

The two departments joined together to combine the funds they raised, and discuss local charities to whom they could donate the funds.

They had several names of people whom they thought would benefit from the event, according to Sgt. Deron Dorward of the Slatington Borough Police Department.

“After going through the names we had, it was determined that Jonathan would be this year’s recipient,” Dorward said. “Jonathan is a hard worker in the community and supports the police.”

Dorward, who has been serving as acting police chief, explained the significance of “No Shave November.”

“I believe this is an important event because it allows officers to give back to their communities,” he said. “It also allows officers to grow facial hair to support a good cause.”
