Tamaqua posted a victory in girls basketball action on Friday, while Marian’s boys basketball team also recorded a win.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Mahanoy Area-Tamaqua

A strong fourth quarter lifted Tamaqua to a 48-44 victory over Mahanoy Area.

Makayla Bartenope and Lorelei Plasha both had a double-double for the Raiders (3-6), who trailed 37-36 entering the final period. Bartenope scored 19 points with 11 rebounds, while Plasha had 12 points and 10 rebounds. Sam Plasha had eight points to go along with six steals in the win.

Felecia Bro led the Golden Bears (1-5) with 15 points, while Hannah Kane scored 14 points.

Mount Carmel-Marian

A big second half helped Marian post a 61-44 non-league win over Mount Carmel.

Julius Currie scored a game-high 24 points for the Colts (3-5), who outscored the Red Tornadoes 32-16 in the second half. Currie hit all four of his 3s in the first half for Marian, which led 29-28 at halftime. Frank Valente scored all 14 of his points after the intermission, while Jesse Rodino finished with 13 points in the win.

Damen Milewski scored 12 points for the Red Tornadoes.
