Local Roundup: Results from Dec. 29

The Northern Lehigh girls basketball team won a tournament consolation game on Thursday.

Elsewhere, three Northwestern wrestlers medaled at the Bethlehem Holiday Classic, led by Dalton Clymer’s third-place finish.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Northern Lehigh got the best of Pleasant Valley for a 54-40 victory in the consolation game of the Lady Indian Holiday Classic.

The Bulldogs’ Aubrey Pollard had the hot hand as she poured in a game-high 28 points. She posted 14 points in each half.

Teammate Katelyn Barthold had a solid second half with 12 of her 16 points in the later half.

Ella Muir led the way for the Bears, as she finished with a team-high 13 points. Teammate Aryn Stivala chipped in with 10.

Northern Lehigh improved to 5-3 on the season, while Pleasant Valley fell to 3-5.

Weatherly-Sch. Haven

A solid first half helped Schuylkill Haven pull away with a 39-27 win over visiting Weatherly.

The Hurricanes jumped out early, but it was a 13-6 edge in the second quarter that provided the hosts a 24-13 advantage going into halftime.

Karlee Feger posted eight of her game-high 14 points in the Hurricanes’ second frame. Teammate Anna Schaeffer finished with nine points.

Emma Kane paced the Wreckers with nine points, while Taylor Davidovich chipped in with six.

Weatherly slipped to 3-4, while Schuylkill Haven moved to 3-5.

WRESTLING

Bethlehem Holiday Classic

Northwestern capped its final day at the Bethlehem Holiday Classic and traveled back home with three medal winners.

The Tigers, who placed 22nd out of 32 teams, watched Luke Fugazzotto (160 pounds), Dalton Clymer (172) and Lucas Miller (189) come away with honors.

Clymer led the way with a third-place finish with a 5-1 mark over the two days.

Miller peppered a fourth-place finish with a 4-2 mark, while Fugazzotto matched that mark but with a fifth-place finish on the road.

Governor Mifflin

Holiday Tournament

Palmerton entered Day One of the Governor Mifflin Holiday Tournament on Thursday.

The Bombers returned with three grapplers vying for a tournament medal.

Leading the way was Derek King, who is still on a path for a tournament title in the 139-pound weight class. King is 2-0 - with two pins - and still alive in the winner’s bracket.

Josh Merkel (121) and Dillon Lombardi (133) return with identical 2-1 marks, but will have to fight their way through the consolation rounds.
