Slatington has applied for a $5 million grant for stormwater and roadway improvements.
Borough council on Monday unanimously approved a resolution for the application of COVID-19 ARPA H2O PA grant in the amount of $5,113,185.
After the meeting, borough Manager Dan Stevens said the grant is for stormwater and roadway improvements for the area north of Northern Lehigh High School.
“Because of the topography up there, stormwater issues, a lot of road issues, water line issues,” Stevens said.
Stevens noted that the borough previously replaced a water line on Shadow Oaks Lane several years ago at a cost of $350,000.
In a related matter, council approved a resolution for the application of COVID-19 ARPA Small Water and Sewer Program grant in the amoun of $277,599, for water line improvements on Maple Spring Drive and adjoining streets.
“It’s all one big project,” Stevens said. “We’re trying to get all the underground stuff done before we pave the roads.”
Stevens noted that last month, council applied for a Multimodal grant in the amount of over $1 million for the same area.
“All these grants are tied together,” he said.
Stevens noted the borough also previously applied for a Local Share Grant in September.
“If there’s crossover, stuff may be taken out of one grant,” he said. “If we get a repeat, you just take it out of one grant.”
