Carbon County Judge Steven R. Serfass issued the following sentences:

Thomas W. Grande, 54, of Manalapan, New Jersey, was placed on probation for a year on a charge of simple assault. He was arrested on July 11, 2019, by state police at Fern Ridge. There is a co-defendant in the case in which he and Grande were involved in an assault incident with another man.

Grande was also ordered to make restitution for medical bills of $23,344.85, supply a DNA sample, have no contact with the victim and render 50 hours of community service.

James Evans, 65, of Hellertown, was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, pay a fine of $1,000, license suspended for a year and render 25 hours of community service on a DUI charge. He was arrested on May 29, 2019, by Lehighton police.

He was given credit for three days already served and paroled.

Each defendant must also pay court costs of over $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole or probation.
