Local Roundup: Results from Dec. 5

The Lehighton boys and girls basketball teams both cruised to wins on Monday.

The boys rolled past Salem Christian Academy, while the girls downed Saucon Valley.

BOYS BASKETBALL

SCA-Lehighton

Eleven different Lehighton players scored points as the Indians cruised to a 57-22 non-league victory over Salem Christian Academy.

Freshman Cole Dietz hit for eight of his game-high 11 points in the first quarter as the Tribe (1-1) raced to a 23-4 lead. Joe Roth added seven in the opening period and finished the contest with nine.

For Salem, now 0-1, Manny Vizcaino recorded a team-high 10 points.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Saucon Vy.-Lehighton

Lehighton pulled away from Saucon Valley in the second half to earn a 49-25 non-league victory over Saucon Valley.

Freshman Olivia Serfass scored seven of her 11 points in the third quarter as the Indians used an 18-6 period to extend a seven-point halftime lead to 19.

The winners, now 1-1, also received 11 points from Emma Repsher, while Taylor Bowman chipped in with eight - six of them coming in the third frame.

For the Panthers (0-1), Allison Cort finished with a team-high 11 points.

Weatherly’s Bethany Houser outscored the entire Salem Christian Academy team as the Wreckers rolled to a 37-13 non-league victory.

Houser tallied a game-high 16 points, with 11 of her points coming in the first quarter as her team took a 14-3 lead.

The winners, playing in their season opener, also received nine points from both Emma Kane and Kelly Reiner.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Marian-Lehighton

In the first-ever junior high girls basketball game in school history, Marian pulled out a 34-32 victory over Lehighton.

The Fillies’ DeAnna Pugh put on a scoring display, leading her team with 26 points.

For the Indians, Cayley Reph and Morgan Costenbader both finished with 10 points.
