A Slatington man is in the Lehigh County prison in Allentown on an assault count.

State police at Bethlehem said at 8:59 p.m. on Dec. 1 troopers responded to Main Street in Washington Township for an assault.

Troopers said Nicholas Gutai, 26, had punched his 15-year-old sister in the face, causing bruising and swelling to her right eye.

A 50-year-old woman attempted to intervene and Gutai shoved her to the ground and punched her in the back of the head.

Gutai was taken into custody and charged with simple assault and harassment. He was arraigned before a district judge and was unable to post 10 percent of $7,500 bail and was committed to the county prison.
