Event feeds families this holiday

The concept is as simple as a Drop N’ Go.

But the overriding goal of the third annual Operation Give a Gobbler Turkeys For Our Veterans serves a much greater purpose.

Presented by Valor, Colossal Radio, and the Pennsylvania State Police, the event will be staged from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Colossal Radio in Palmerton.

Give a Gobbler was started in 2020 by Pennsylvania State Police Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Anthony Petroski, Community Services Officer for Troop N, and Layne “Doc” Roberts, owner of Colossal Radio.

Petroski said the event is a united effort to feed veteran families on Thanksgiving.

“Valor relies a lot on donations and community members,” Petroski said. “We hold this (small) event here so they can make their mission a success.”

Roberts noted that the event “started with humble beginnings.”

Petroksi added, “Our goal is to collect whatever we can for Valor. Anything helps.”

“We appreciate no matter what somebody gives,” he said. “Anything is better than nothing.”

Roberts said Christine LeClair, Carbon County Director of Veterans Affairs, the Palmerton United Veterans Organization, the Marine Corp. League, Country Harvest Family Market and Black Box Coffee Bar & Donuttery in Palmerton, Lehigh Valley Hospital - Carbon Campus, and Amazon will all assist with the drive.

In addition, he said that the Lehighton Police Department has partnered with Colossal Radio and challenged the Palmerton Police Department and Jim Thorpe Police Department to see which department can have the most non-perishable food items donated through Wednesday.

Petroski reiterated how grateful they are for the support.

“Valor is more than appreciative of what about this initiative,” he said. “We appreciate all of the sponsors and anybody who’s a part of this to support this initiative.”

Participation in the event is:

• Through The Hofford Mill in Weissport, whereby cash and non-perishable donations can be made to the donation box at The Gorge host stand leading up to the donation drive. Cash donated to the Hofford Mill will be used to purchase turkeys at wholesale cost.

• Through the live donation drive. Cash and non-perishable donations can be given directly to volunteers of the Valor Clinic at the event on Wednesday.

?• Online. For those who cannot contribute in person, donations can be made on Colossal Radio’s website, www.colossalradio.rocks.
