Man charged with firing gun, pistol-whipping couple

A Lansford man have waived assault charges after police said he fired a gun and pistol-whipped a couple during a fight.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by officer Matthew Houser of the Lansford Police Department in the case against 52-year-old Lee King:

At 11:07 p.m. Oct. 5, police were dispatched to the area of the 300 block of W. Patterson Street for a fight in the street. There was also a report of shots being fired.

King saw a man stumbling down the street and stopped the cruiser. He appeared to be intoxicated and was bleeding from his face and he said he was in a fight.

The man said he was pistol whipped by a man who fired a handgun at him. The man’s wife, also covered in blood, came to the scene and said she was also pistol whipped and had self defense wounds.

She said a man wearing a mask pistol-whipped her and fired the handgun at her.

Houser and officer Kodie Pituch of the Summit Hill Police Department talked to witnesses who described a white Mercedes-Benz that fled the scene, and said a gunshot was fired from the park.

While police were looking for the shell casing near the park, they saw a white Mercedes-Benz on W. Patterson Street.

A traffic stop was conducted at gunpoint, and the driver, King, was taken into custody.

The woman identified him immediately, but said he was not the one that assaulted her or shot the firearm.

King was transported back to the Lansford Police Station.

At the scene police found a bullet casing, a cellphone and gray lighter.

The Mercedes was towed and the tow truck operator found a gun under the driver’s seat. King said that he was not part of the shooting that took place, and claimed that he was further up the street at the time of the incident.

King did say that he drove another man to Coaldale, but was unable to give a name of the individual or address, stating he only knows him as “L.A.”

On Oct. 6, a warrant was issued to search the vehicle.

Police found a loaded 9 mm handgun labeled Pro (no serial number) under the driver’s seat. The 9mm casing that was found at the scene matched the same bullets in the magazine.

Also, there was blood found on the hood of the vehicle. King faces charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, firearms - person not to possess firearm, driving without a license, carry firearm without license, and criminal conspiracy aiding.

He is free on $50,000 unsecured bail.
