Local Roundup: Results from Oct. 1

Three local soccer players had hat tricks to lead their teams to victories on Saturday.

Dawson Meckes had three goals to pace the Jim Thorpe boys, while Charli McHugh and Karissa Moyer both registered three goals for the Lehighton girls.

BOYS SOCCER

Northern Lehigh-Jim Thorpe

Dawson Meckes recorded a hat trick to lead Jim Thorpe to a 5-0 non-league victory over Northern Lehigh.

Meckes, who also had two assists in the contest, scored twice in the first half as the Olympians built a 3-0 lead.

He added his third goal in the second half to help his team improve to 6-7.

Caleb Cruz added a goal and an assist to the winning cause, while Noah Geiser also tallied. Registering assists for Thorpe were Rowan Melber and Devon Frantz.

Olympian goalie Cael Heaney made three saves to earn the shutout.

The loss dropped the Bulldogs to 2-10-1.

Northwestern-Upper Perkiomen

Northwestern received goals from four different players to earn a 4-1 non-league victory over Upper Perkiomen.

Jake Van Leirop, Cayden Fitch, Matt Johnson and Josh Zellner all scored for the Tigers, who remained undefeated at 16-0.

Van Leirop also had two assists, while Jack Mauro and Tim Zellner also provided helpers.

Pleasant Valley-Nazareth

Cole Hilarczyk scored three goals to power Nazareth to a 6-0 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over Pleasant Valley.

Parker Hoff and Trevor Digby both added a goal and two assists, while Sam Roberts accounted for the other tally.

The loss dropped the Bears to 8-5-1, while the Blue Eagles upped their record to 11-3.

Bangor-Weatherly

Bangor cruised to an 11-0 non-league victory over Weatherly.

Hayden Burns led the Slaters with two goals and a pair of assists, while Landen Smith added two goals.

Bangor, now 8-6, also received a pair of assists from Kaden Dowds.

The Wreckers dropped to 1-12.

Salisbury-Tamaqua

Zuniga Garcia and Josh Hudak both scored two goals to help Salisbury post a 5-0 non-league victory over Tamaqua.

The Falcons, who improved to 6-8, also received a goal from Noah Kichline. Gavin Berger, meanwhile, made five saves to earn the shutout win.

With the loss, the Blue Raiders fell to 4-9.

GIRLS SOCCER

Lehighton-Catasauqua

Big games from Charli McHugh and Karissa Moyer propelled Lehighton to a 9-0 non-league victory over Catasauqua.

McHugh finished with a hat trick and two assists, while Moyer also scored three goals to help their team improve to 8-5.

The Indians received a goal and two assists from Cheyann Marx, with Leah Uyvari and Mylee Lutsko both adding a goal and a helper.

Lehighton’s Ciara Behrel finished with three saves to record the shutout.

The loss dropped the Roughies to 1-14.

Upper Perkiomen-Northwestern

Upper Perkiomen kept its unbeaten record intact by gaining a 2-1 non-league victory over Northwestern.

The Indians upped their mark to 11-0-1.

Syenna Flores scored for the Tigers, who fell to 11-4-1, while goalie Naomi Glassberg finished with seven saves.

FIELD HOCKEY

Moravian Academy-Lehighton

Phoebe Shane scored with 29.6 seconds left in overtime to give Moravian Academy a 2-1 victory over Lehighton.

The Lions, who also received a goal from Claire Martin, won their eight straight game and improved to 12-1.

Maggie Pagotto scored for the Indians, who fell to 5-8.

VOLLEYBALL

Lehighton-Saucon Valley

Lehighton fell to Saucon Valley in straight sets 25-21, 25-13, 27-25 in non-league action.

Lorah Thomas had four kills and two blocks for the Indians, while Madelyn Sofranko contributed 11 assists. Lyla Kershner chipped in with a kill and eight digs, and Mia Snyder finished with nine assists.

The Panthers (5-5) were led by Abby Meiser’s eight kills.

The loss dropped Lehighton to 5-10.
