Local roundup: Results from Sept. 20

Northwestern’s boys and girls each went 3-0 in a Colonial League cross country meet on Tuesday. The Tigers also earned a victory in field hockey action.

Elsewhere, Jim Thorpe earned wins in tennis and volleyball action, while Pleasant Valley’s boys and girls soccer teams each recorded victories.

Palmerton-Bangor-Notre Dame ES-Wilson-Pen Argyl

The Northwestern boys and girls both posted sweeps in a Colonial League meet at Pen Argyl.

Northwestern’s Matthew Santana won the boys’ race with a time of 17:15.96 as the Tigers went 3-0, while Angelina Klein won the girls’ race with a time of 20:43.57 for Northwestern.

Samuel Bower placed second at the boys’ meet for the undefeated Tigers (12-0), while Sophia Cornell finished fourth in the girls’ race for Northwestern (9-3).

Palmerton’s Owen Hibell and Connor Hibell finished in third and fourth, respectively, as the Bombers went 2-1 in the boys’ meet. Northern Lehigh’s Emma Heil and Palmerton’s Emma Rex finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the girls’ competition.

Martin Green and Frankie Morales were 21st and 22nd, respectively, in the boys’ race for the Bears.

Keeley Lawrence placed 21st in the girls’ competition for Pleasant Valley.

Northern Lehigh-Northwestern

Seven different players scored as Northwestern cruised to a 9-0 Colonial League victory over Northern Lehigh.

Carsyn Van Norman and Brooke Paige each finished with two goals for the Tigers (5-3-1, 4-3). Josey Wehr followed with a goal and an assist, while Brinley Rex, Cara Thomas, Ella Dangello and Claire Costa also scored.

Palmerton-Catasauqua

Kira Hauser registered three goals, and Skylar Kolher added a pair of scores as Palmerton routed host Catasauqua 8-0 in Colonial League action.

The Blue Bombers (6-4) held a 42-5 edge in shots on goal. Sophia Becker had 33 saves for Catasauqua (1-8).

BOYS SOCCER

Lehighton-Tamaqua

Two second-half goals put Tamaqua over the top in a 2-0 Schuylkill League win over Lehighton.

Aiden Schlier ended the scoreless tie 17:01 into the second half with a score for the Blue Raiders (5-3, 2-4) before setting up Cooper Ansbach for another goal 33:35 in. Nicholas Barron recorded an assist on Schlier’s goal.

Jonathan Ulicny grabbed 12 saves to preserve the shutout for Tamaqua, while Bryce Miller made eight saves for the Indians (7-3, 2-4).

Pleasant Valley-Liberty

A second-half goal from Onious George lifted Pleasant Valley to a 1-0 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win over Liberty.

The Bears improved to 6-2-1 with the victory.

Johnny Smith made four saves for the Hurricanes (3-6), who held an 8-5 advantage in shots on goal.

Schuylkill Haven-Weatherly

Schuylkill Haven blanked Weatherly for a 3-0 Schuylkill League win.

Schuylkill Haven moved to 5-4 (5-1) with the win.

Michael Davies finished with eight saves for the Wreckers (0-8, 0-4).

GIRLS SOCCER

Liberty-Pleasant Valley

Pleasant Valley rolled to a 6-0 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win over Liberty.

Ella Muir had two goals for the Bears (7-2-1), while Aryn Stivala scored and had three assists. Makayla Berry, Madison Fava (assist) and Riley Green also scored for Pleasant Valley, while Sysali Banks recorded two assists.

Mya Manigo had three saves in the first half for PV. Sadie Rizzo stopped three shots in the second half to preserve the shutout.

GIRLS TENNIS

Jim Thorpe-Pottsville

Jim Thorpe downed Pottsville for a 6-1 win.

Tara McLean, Hailey Trine, Ashlyn Miller, and Chloe Tantala all posted singles victories for the Olympians (8-5).

Blue Mountain posted a 4-1 win over Tamaqua.

The doubles team of August Stinson and Jenelle Fernandez picked up the lone win for the Blue Raiders (2-6).

Jim Thorpe-Tamaqua

Undefeated Jim Thorpe swept Tamaqua, 3-0, in a Schuylkill League tilt.

For the Olympians (8-0), Maggy Hallihan had 26 assists, six aces, 12 service points, four digs, and one kill; Brianna Snisky finished with eight kills, two blocks, and two digs, Brooke Mitzen added 10 kills, three aces, and two digs and Priscilla Patton chipped in with eight kills.

The Blue Raiders were led by Lacey Beers, who had six digs, while Eileen Lusch added five, and Ashlyn Houser. Leah Crowley added two aces and two digs, while Rylie Lausch contributed two blocks and one dig.

Minersville-Marian

Marian got the best of Minersville for a 25-3, 25-8, 25-15 Schuylkill League win.

Julia Meiss paced the Fillies with 17 assists, two kills and two digs, while Jenna Goff added 10 aces, two kills and two digs.

Megan Paisley (eight kills, five digs, two aces) and Abbey Kluck (six kills, six digs) helped Marian improve to 8-3 overall (5-1 SL).

Saucon Valley-Palmerton

Saucon Valley defeated Palmerton in straight sets, coming away with a 25-10, 25-9, 25-8 Colonial League win.

Caylee Strohl led the Bombers (2-7 overall; 0-3 CL) with six digs, while Alysa Roe finished with four assists. Jess Heydt added two kills.

Williams Valley-Weatherly

Williams Valley swept Weatherly, 25-11, 25-21, and 25-14 in a Schuylkill League match.

Jenna Winklet had seven digs and Kelly Michaels added five digs for the Wreckers (2-8).
