Schuylkill Walk In Center creates art education center

The Schuylkill Walk In Art Center recently revealed its new Art Education Center and has rolled out a full schedule of classes for adults and children.

“Our class schedule is a mix of what we are calling ‘core’ classes and one or two-night classes for special projects or those classic Paint ’n Sips,” said Heather Butler, the WIAC’s education coordinator.

“Those who have been waiting for beginner classes are in luck,” said Butler, “and the WIAC is offering core classes which give the basics for acrylic and oil painting, watercolors, drawing and sketching, collaging, sculpture and clay, and even poetry.”

In addition to these core classes, there is a fun teen class called “Strange Things and Monsters” with a theme to match the popular Netflix series, and several one-night paint and sip classes with different seasonal subjects.

There are also more advanced pottery classes for those with some experience. Those wanting to work with pottery are encouraged to visit the Art Ed Center on Monday and Thursday evenings for Clay Open Studio. A small monthly fee will allow people to attend on as many Open Studio nights as they are able each month.

Those interested in fiber arts - weaving, knitting, etc. - can also take advantage of Fiber Arts Open Studio days on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“We now have a facility large enough to accommodate all types of art and creative exploration,” said Jacquie Engel, the Walk In’s executive director. “It’s equipped and unlike any other center in the area and we want everyone to come take a look.”
