Local roundup: Results from Sept. 14

The Jim Thorpe and Marian girls, along with the Tamaqua boys, all recorded sweeps in Schuylkill League cross country action on Wednesday.

CROSS COUNTRY

Jim Thorpe-Tamaqua-

Pine Grove-Pottsville

The Jim Thorpe girls and Tamaqua boys both went 3-0 in a Schuylkill League meet at Pottsville.

Nicole Carroll led the way for the undefeated Jim Thorpe girls (6-0) with a win in 22:53, while Gabby Cinicola placed second. Mia Jones led the Tamaqua girls, who went 2-1, with a sixth-place finish.

Jordan Remmel led the Olympians with a first-place finish in 18:17 in the boys’ meet. Tony Marchetti, Levi Kunel and Adam Schock were second, third and fourth, respectively, for the Blue Raiders.

Schuy. Haven-Shenandoah- Tri-Valley-Marian

The unbeaten Marian girls came away with a sweep in a Schuylkill League quad meet at home. Meanwhile, the Colts lost a close one to finish 2-1 on the day.

Emma Ashfield posted a second-place finish with a time of 25:48 for the Fillies (6-0).

Albin Petschauer led the Colts, who went 2-1, with a first-place finish in 19:30 in the boys’ meet.

Alex Porambo and Ava Fritz both grabbed a top-five finish on the day, as both came away with fourth-place finishes in the boys’ and girls’ meets, respectively.

Lehighton’s boys and girls both went 1-2 in a Schuylkill League meet at Minersville.

The Indian boys and girls each picked up wins over North Schuylkill. The girls registered a 27-32 victory over the Spartans, while the boys posted a 20-39 win.

Katie Wojton and Elijah Pagotto led Lehighton with sixth-place finishes. Wojton paced the girls in 22:26, while Pagotto crossed the line in 17:40. Owen Serfass and Caden Kresge were 14th and 15th, respectively, in the boys’ race.

Jim Thorpe-Lehighton

Jacob Geiser’s second-half goal lifted Jim Thorpe to a 3-2 Schuylkill League win over Lehighton.

Jayden Chambers and Jack Sanwirja both posted goals in the first half to help the Olympians (4-4 overall; 4-2 SL) take a 2-1 lead into intermission. Blake Barberio finished with six saves.

Jacob Hall added a first-half goal for the Indians (6-3; 2-3), while Mason Marchessault posted a second-half score. Matt Sofranko finished with two assists, while Bryce Miller grabbed 19 saves.

Weatherly-Tri-Valley

Tri-Valley topped Weatherly 3-0 in Schuylkill League action.

Wyatt Higgins posted 10 saves for the Wreckers (0-6, 0-3).

FIELD HOCKEY

Catty-Northwestern

Northwestern cruised to a 9-0 Colonial League victory over Catasauqua.

Brinley Rex had two goals and an assist for the Tigers (4-2-1, 3-2). Claire Costa and Olivia Costa both finished with two goals, while Brooke Page, Carsyn Van Norman and Daniella Lister also scored, and Cara Thomas added an assist.

GIRLS SOCCER

Catasauqua-Tamaqua

Tamaqua posted its third straight shutout with a commanding 7-0 non-league victory over Catasauqua.

Kimmy Rudy and Sarah Hope both came away with hat tricks for the Blue Raiders (3-3). Andy Betz also added a goal, while Katie Fredericks recorded an assist.

Cecelia Ulicny grabbed six saves in goal for her second shutout of the season.

Dieruff-Pleasant Valley

Pleasant Valley cruised to an 8-0 win over Dieruff in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference action.

Aryn Stivala had two goals and a pair of assists for the Bears (5-2-1), who out shot Dieruff 28-1. Katelyn Honadel, Madison Fava, Makayla Berry, Hailey Klein, Peyton Foder and Trinity Dalrymple also scored for PV. Honadel, Klein, Ella Muir and Danielle Boland added assists.

GIRLS TENNIS

Tamaqua-Jim Thorpe

Jim Thorpe edged Tamaqua for a 4-3 win.

Tara McLean, Hailey Trine, Ashlynn Miller and Keira Reese all earned singles victories for the Olympians (5-5).

The teams of Helen Florea and Gabby Eroh, along with Venelee Fernandez and Nately Kerestes helped the Blue Raiders (1-4) sweep doubles play. Florea also earned a win in singles action.

Tamaqua closed out the regular season with a 368-422 Schuylkill League win over Jim Thorpe at Jack Frost National.

Tim Fritzinger earned medalist honors for Tamaqua (10-5, 8-4) with an 80.

Mark Domski led the Olympians (0-12, 0-12) with a 94.

Trey Spring fired a score of 80 to post medalist honors for the Indians.

Matt Caulfield recorded an 88 for the Eagles.

Lehighton ends the year with a 4-10 record, while Blue Mountain falls to 6-7.
